ARTHUR J. GONZALEZ
Who is Arthur?
Arthur is the writer of several Young Adult novels and Children’s stories. He currently resides in Los Angeles, CA, where he spends most of his time crafting stories about fantastical things, indulging in sweets (specifically chocolate), and making up his own lyrics to nearly every song (mostly because he forgets the original words).
A message from the Arthur (the author):
What children are exposed to at early ages defines the way they see their world, the way they view themselves. I know this from firsthand experience. When I was a child, there were no books that helped to explain the confusion I faced with my own sexual orientation. There were no examples to help understand why my darker features and parent’s accents were magnets for stares anytime we ventured outside of Miami. And not having those characters represented only added to the feelings that who I was was wrong. There are more options now, but we are still a long way to lining bookshelves with these stories.
The goal of my stories is to educate on the values of self-acceptance, love, and respect, by tackling the critical and hard-to-discuss issues like gender identity, race, sexual orientation, and disabilities. We’ve learned that it’s impossible to responsibly and fully learn without stories that are diverse and inclusive to pull from; with stories that stretch the imagination as much as they do the perspective. And more so, we need characters of a marginalized nature to be seen as main characters, not just sidekicks or secondary characters.
You’ll likely note that common themes in my storytelling are hope and faith, as well as adventures and quests. The lessons that resonated most for me were those wrapped in stories of potions, destinies, magical portals, and the impossible.
To simply summarize it, I hope that the children and families that read my stories find inspiration to begin critical conversations, exercise their imaginations, expand their perspectives, and instill confidence in advocacy in a mind that is at its most pliable and absorbent.
Please, join and support me on the adventure.
Yours Truly,
Arthur J. Gonzalez
I owe everything to my family. For without them I could never love the way I do. My heart is made of love. My mother gave me gold to which I filled it, my father the steel to which I protect it.
